Aaron Judge Unlikely for Wild Card Round, Yankees Panic Meter Spikes

The New York Yankees are heading into the MLB Wild Card round, and they are probably doing it without the guy who provides the entire structural integrity of their lineup.

Taking Judge out of the Yankees' batting order is like taking the engine out of a sports car and replacing it with a lawnmower motor. Sure, it still has the shiny pinstriped paint job, but it is not winning any races in October.

New York just dropped two straight games to the Arizona Diamondbacks and are currently grinding through a late-September series against the Tampa Bay Rays. They desperately need momentum heading into the playoffs, but instead, they are getting a massive void in right field.

Judge has dealt with his share of physical setbacks, including a previous stint on the injured list with a right rib stress fracture. When he is not in the box, the entire geometry of the opposing pitching strategy changes.

For anyone looking at the postseason futures market, this update is a massive red flag. You do not just replace a guy who hits baseballs into orbit on a nightly basis, and the betting lines for the Wild Card round are going to reflect that reality.
