Ausar Thompson's Ankle Keeps the Pistons Guessing Ahead of Philly Matchup

The Detroit Pistons are once again playing the waiting game with Ausar Thompson's right ankle, officially listing the defensive standout as questionable for Sunday's matchup against the Philadelphia 76ers.

If you are holding a ticket on any Pistons wing props or trying to finalize a fantasy lineup, you already know the drill. Thompson's status is the ultimate domino for Detroit's rotation, turning a routine pregame shootaround into high-stakes viewing.

"Underdog NBA reported: 'Ausar Thompson (ankle) listed questionable for Sunday.'"

This is not exactly a new plotline for Detroit. Thompson is currently dealing with right ankle injury management after missing five straight games earlier this month due to a sprain. He recently exited a game early after rolling it again, leaving head coach J.B. Bickerstaff without much of an update at the time.

The Pistons are actually showing real signs of life, coming off a 128-111 offensive clinic against the Miami Heat. Adding a fully healthy Thompson back into the mix gives them the kind of perimeter lockdown defender who can completely erase an opposing star. Just ask the Cleveland Cavaliers, who watched Thompson put their offense in a straightjacket earlier this year.

But right now, trusting Thompson's ankle is like trusting a gas station phone charger. It might work perfectly for three hours, or it might leave you stranded at one percent when you need it most. The medical staff is clearly being cautious with their young foundational piece, which is smart for the franchise but absolute torture for anyone trying to handicap this roster.

Keep a close eye on the injury wire as tip-off approaches in Philly. If Thompson sits, expect a heavy dose of the secondary wings to fill the void, shifting the defensive assignments and the betting lines right along with them.
