This changes the vibe in Tampa Bay immediately. Instead of a season-long referendum on Baker's future hovering over every incomplete pass, the Bucs can actually focus on defending their NFC South crown. If you are looking at Tampa Bay's win total or division odds, having long-term stability under center makes them a much less volatile weekly proposition.

With the regular season kicking off this week, the timing could not be better. Mayfield gets his money, the Bucs get their guy, and everyone can stop pretending they were actually going to let him test the open market. Now he just has to go out and prove the sequel is as good as the reboot.
