Tampa Bay head coach Todd Bowles confirmed that his starting quarterback suffered a dislocated thumb on his throwing hand during Sunday's 23-16 loss to the Minnesota Vikings.

NFL Network's Tom Pelissero reported the news, noting that Mayfield is scheduled for an MRI on Monday. Playing through a lower-body injury is one thing, but trying to grip a football with a dislocated thumb on your throwing hand is like trying to pitch a baseball with oven mitts on.

Before exiting the game, Mayfield had compiled 398 passing yards, one touchdown, and one interception on the young 2026 season, while adding another 59 yards on the ground. He has been the engine keeping the Tampa Bay offense functional, making this injury a massive red flag for the entire roster.

The guy's medical chart reads like a stunt double's resume, featuring a history of playing through torn labrums, sprained ankles, and bruised ribs over the last few years.
