Christian McCaffrey Exits With Thigh Injury, Sending Fantasy Rosters Into Panic Mode

Christian McCaffrey is questionable to return with a thigh injury, which means fantasy managers and live bettors everywhere are currently staring blankly at their screens.

ESPN's Field Yates broke the news that the San Francisco 49ers star running back tweaked his thigh mid-game. For a guy who handles the ball more than a point guard, any lower-body issue is an immediate red alert for the entire offensive operation.

"Field Yates reported McCaffrey is questionable to return due to a thigh injury."

McCaffrey has been carrying his usual absurd workload this season. He already has 350 rushing yards and seven touchdowns on the ground, plus another 28 catches for 190 yards. When he leaves the field, the entire geometry of the defense changes, and live betting totals usually plummet right along with it.

The problem is that McCaffrey’s injury history reads like a medical textbook index. He is 30 years old now, an age where running backs usually start turning to dust. Over the last few years, he has battled calf pulls, a PCL sprain, and Achilles tendinitis. Adding a thigh injury to that list is like finding a new leak in a submarine that is already wrapped in duct tape.

The 49ers will likely play it safe with their franchise centerpiece, meaning Isaac Guerendo or whoever is left in the backfield will have to carry the load. Expect Kyle Shanahan to give a vague update postgame, while the rest of us spend the next 48 hours refreshing our feeds to see if McCaffrey is headed for an MRI tube.
