Colby Thicknesse Hits the Scale at 135.5 Pounds to Lock in UFC 333 Bout

Colby Thicknesse stepped on the scale at 135.5 pounds for UFC 333, officially locking in his bantamweight fight against Asaf Chopurov. In a normal sport, showing up at the agreed-upon size is just called doing your job. In modern MMA, avoiding a catastrophic weight miss is basically a minor miracle worth celebrating.

The official weigh-in results from MMA Fighting confirm the Australian prospect is good to go for the Abu Dhabi prelims. Bettors can finally exhale, knowing there will be no last-minute catchweight drama or purse deductions to factor into the weekend slips.

"MMA Fighting reported the official weigh-in result of 135.5 pounds."

Thicknesse is currently sitting at 9-1 as a pro and 2-1 in the UFC. He is best known as the longtime training partner of Alexander Volkanovski, who just happens to be defending his featherweight title against Movsar Evloev at the top of this exact same card.

Going from working security shifts in your car to fighting on a massive Yas Island pay-per-view alongside your mentor is a massive leap. Thicknesse earned his spot the hard way, bouncing back from a short-notice debut loss to Aleksandre Topuria with two gritty decision wins in Perth.

He brings a Brazilian jiu-jitsu black belt and a reputation for weaponized cardio into the cage against Chopurov. Hitting 135.5 pounds with no visible signs of a brutal weight cut is the first real victory of the week.

Now the Freestyle MMA product just has to handle his business on the prelims. If he gets his hand raised, he can grab a towel and a front-row seat to watch Volkanovski try to keep the featherweight belt in the gym.
