The Brooklyn Nets are already off to the kind of start that makes you want to simulate to the end of the season, and now they are losing bodies to go with the games.
Guard Egor Dëmin has been diagnosed with a right leg bone bruise. According to Michael Scotto, the team will re-evaluate him in one week.
"Michael Scotto reported the injury update."
That means Dëmin is officially on the shelf for the immediate future, starting with Friday night's matchup against the Detroit Pistons. For a Brooklyn rotation desperately trying to find a pulse, losing backcourt depth is the last thing they needed.
The Nets are currently sitting on an 0-3 record that features a little bit of everything. They dropped a tight 125-121 opener to the Cleveland Cavaliers, got absolutely blown off the floor by the Indiana Pacers in a 136-109 laugher, and then suffered a brutal one-point heartbreaker against the Boston Celtics.
When a team is bleeding points and dropping games in every conceivable fashion, taking away a rotation guard just makes the math harder. Bettors looking at Brooklyn's upcoming spreads will have to factor in a thinner bench and a defense that is already giving up over 128 points a night.
Dëmin will spend the next seven days resting that leg while the Nets try to stop the bleeding. If they cannot figure out how to get a stop against Detroit, a one-week bone bruise is going to be the least of this franchise's problems.
