Giants Swap JuJu Smith-Schuster for Najee Harris in Ultimate 2021 Fantasy Football Move

The New York Giants are officially running their front office like a fantasy football team stuck in 2021. According to Adam Schefter, New York is signing running back Najee Harris and releasing veteran wide receiver JuJu Smith-Schuster to clear the roster spot.

If this transaction happened half a decade ago, it would have broken the internet. Today, it is just another weird Tuesday in East Rutherford for a franchise desperately trying to find an identity.

Harris is attempting a comeback after tearing his Achilles in September 2025 while playing for the Los Angeles Chargers. He logged a grand total of 61 rushing yards last season before his year ended in Week 3, which makes signing a 28-year-old running back off a catastrophic leg injury a fascinating gamble.

To make the math work, Smith-Schuster gets the boot. The Giants already have a crowded, chaotic receiver room featuring Odell Beckham Jr. fighting for a job and Malik Nabers working his way back from a serious knee injury.

Keeping Smith-Schuster around simply did not make sense for a team that has won a combined seven games over the last two seasons. New head coach John Harbaugh is clearly trying to establish a physical, old-school culture, and swapping a veteran slot receiver for a bruising back fits the brand perfectly.

Oddsmakers are not going to rush to adjust the New York win total over a depth signing, but it does add some heavy intrigue to the backfield rotation. Second-year quarterback Jaxson Dart needs all the reliable check-down options he can get while adjusting to yet another offensive scheme.
