The Charlotte Hornets are already in midseason form, and by that, I mean their injury report reads like a CVS receipt before the real games even start.
Brandon Miller suffered a shin contusion in practice and is sitting out tonight's preseason matchup against the Brooklyn Nets. He is officially day-to-day, which is NBA speak for a medical staff not taking any chances in October.
"Michael Scotto reported that Miller, Anderson, Knueppel, White, and Williams are all injured for the Hornets."
He is not alone on the sidelines. Christian Anderson sprained his ankle and is also out tonight with a day-to-day tag. Add in Kon Knueppel, Coby White, and Grant Williams, and Charlotte is suddenly missing an entire starting five's worth of rotation guys.
It is only the preseason, but having five guys on the shelf before Halloween is objectively hilarious in a dark, Hornets-fan kind of way. You could field a pretty competitive pickup squad with the guys currently wearing sweatpants on Charlotte's bench.
For anyone trying to handicap a preseason game between the Nets and a depleted Hornets roster, you might want to reconsider your life choices. The rotation tonight is going to look like a summer league fever dream with deep bench guys fighting for their basketball lives.
The good news is that Miller and Anderson avoided anything serious. Charlotte has plenty of time to get healthy before the games actually count, but they might want to look into wrapping their core in bubble wrap immediately.
