Jaguars Trade 2028 Pick for Quinn Ewers After Shutting Out Dolphins

The Jacksonville Jaguars just traded a 2028 sixth-round pick to the Miami Dolphins for quarterback Quinn Ewers, which means NFL teams are officially bartering with draft capital attached to kids who just got their learner's permits.

Adam Schefter broke the news of the swap on Saturday night. Miami gets a future day-three dart throw, and Jacksonville gets a backup quarterback who was rapidly running out of real estate in South Florida.

The absolute funniest part of this transaction is the timing. Jacksonville and Miami literally just played a preseason game on Friday night, ending in a 19-0 Jaguars shutout. Jacksonville's front office watched the Dolphins' offense fail to cross the goal line for three hours and immediately decided they needed to acquire one of their signal-callers.

Ewers was a seventh-round pick for Miami in 2025 and got thrown into the fire late last season when the team benched Tua Tagovailoa. He started three games, posting a 1-2 record with 622 passing yards, three touchdowns, and three interceptions. It was the definition of perfectly balanced, completely uninspiring football.

Miami had zero use for him going forward. The Dolphins handed Malik Willis a three-year, $67.5 million contract this offseason, all while still navigating the financial hostage situation that is Tagovailoa's massive cap hit. Getting any future asset for a guy destined for the practice squad is a clean win for Miami.

From a betting perspective, this does absolutely nothing to Jacksonville's win totals or divisional odds. Ewers is strictly an insurance policy to eat up practice reps and sit behind Trevor Lawrence on the depth chart.

Ewers will now pack his bags and head a few hours north up the Florida coast. We will find out soon enough if he actually sticks on the final roster, or if that 2028 draft pick ends up being the only memorable part of this entire exchange.
