Jameis Winston is Starting for the Giants, and New York is Already Shopping for His Replacement

The New York Giants are handing the keys to the Jameis Winston experience this Sunday, which is exactly the kind of sentence that makes offensive coordinators wake up in a cold sweat.

Ian Rapoport reported this morning that Winston is officially getting the nod against the Tennessee Titans. But the real punchline is the second half of the report: the Giants are actively mulling which quarterback they are going to add to the roster. You know your job security is in a great place when the front office is window-shopping for your replacement before you even finish your pregame stretches.

Winston is stepping in because rookie Jaxson Dart got sandwiched by the Los Angeles Rams defense last week and limped off with a leg injury. The Giants went on to lose that game 28-6, and Winston’s relief appearance did not exactly inspire a parade down the Canyon of Heroes. He is currently sitting on 111 passing yards, zero touchdowns, one interception, and a bleak 17.2 QBR for the season.

Betting on a Jameis-led offense is like trying to defuse a bomb in the dark. You might get a 300-yard passing clinic, or you might get three interceptions thrown into triple coverage by halftime. The sportsbooks know this, which is why any line involving the Giants right now is basically a volatility index.
