Jayden Higgins Tears ACL in Joint Practice, Leaving Texans WR Room Running on Fumes

The Houston Texans just watched their wide receiver depth chart turn into a triage unit.

Ian Rapoport reported Wednesday that second-year wideout Jayden Higgins suffered a torn ACL during a joint practice with the Las Vegas Raiders. He actually walked off the field under his own power initially, which is the human body's favorite way of tricking you before delivering the worst possible MRI results.

This is a brutal subtraction for an offense that was supposed to be an absolute track meet. Higgins put up 41 catches for 525 yards and six touchdowns as a rookie out of Iowa State in 2025. He was primed for a massive sophomore leap, and now his season is over before the games even count.

The Houston receiving room is suddenly looking thinner than a single-ply napkin at a cheap diner. Nico Collins is already nursing a hamstring issue, and Tank Dell is still being load-managed after shredding his ACL, MCL, and LCL back in December 2024. If you are a Texans fan, it might be time to start stretching, because they are running out of guys who can run a clean post route.

For the fantasy sickos and prop bettors, this completely scrambles the board. The target share in Houston just condensed into a very fragile funnel. You cannot bet on Higgins anymore, but the lines on Collins and Dell are going to shift dramatically once the books figure out who is actually healthy enough to catch a football.

Houston has a meaningless preseason game against these same Raiders on August 21. Expect the Texans to wrap whatever healthy receivers they have left in industrial bubble wrap until Week 1.
