Jovaughn Gwyn Wins Ravens Center Job After Danny Pinter's Brutal Injury

The Baltimore Ravens have officially figured out who is snapping the football this Sunday, and Jovaughn Gwyn is the last man standing.

Head coach Jesse Minter announced the decision, ending a training camp battle that nobody outside of the 410 area code was watching but every bettor eyeing the Ravens' team total should care about. Gwyn gets the starting nod at center against the Indianapolis Colts for Week 1, according to ESPN's Adam Schefter.

"Adam Schefter reported: 'Ravens HC Jesse Minter announced Jovaughn Gwyn will start at center Sunday vs. the Colts.'"

This was not exactly how Baltimore drew it up on the whiteboard in May. The job was supposed to belong to Danny Pinter, but a brutal torn patellar tendon ended his season before it even started.

That left Gwyn and Ethan Pocic fighting for the right to anchor the interior line. Gwyn ultimately won the staring contest, which means he now has the terrifying responsibility of keeping the pocket clean in Minter's debut as head coach.

Stepping in as a replacement center in Week 1 is like being asked to fly a commercial jet because you once successfully assembled a Lego helicopter. The margin for error is zero, and everyone in the stadium is going to notice if you mess up a single snap count.

If you are looking at the trenches for Sunday's matchup, the Colts defensive line is going to test Gwyn immediately. We will find out very quickly if Baltimore's backup plan is built for a full season or if the Ravens are going to be scrambling for interior help by Tuesday morning.
