Knicks Deploy Their $1 Billion Starting Five to Avoid an 0-3 Disaster

The New York Knicks are officially rolling out the most expensive, Villanova-heavy starting five in franchise history on Tuesday. Underdog NBA confirmed New York will start Jalen Brunson, Mikal Bridges, Josh Hart, OG Anunoby, and Karl-Anthony Towns.

On paper, that is a lineup built to go to war with the elite teams of the Eastern Conference in late May. In reality, it is a lineup being deployed to desperately avoid dropping to 0-3 against the Detroit Pistons in late October.

"Underdog NBA reported the confirmed starting five of Brunson, Bridges, Hart, Anunoby, and Towns."

The Knicks stumbled out of the gates this season, dropping their opener to the Boston Celtics 107-103 before getting handled by the Orlando Magic 111-102. You do not trade half your future draft capital for Bridges and Towns to start the year getting bullied by the Magic.

For anyone holding Knicks futures or staring at Tuesday's player props, this is the ultimate get-right spot. Detroit is the NBA equivalent of a scrimmage with referees, offering the perfect runway for this new core to finally gel.

If Brunson and Towns cannot find their offensive rhythm against a rebuilding Pistons squad, the panic in Manhattan is going to reach levels usually reserved for a rush-hour subway shutdown.

New York has to take care of business at home before immediately packing up for a Wednesday night matchup against the Chicago Bulls. If this starting five clicks, the early losing streak becomes a funny footnote. If they struggle again, the panic in New York will be deafening.
