Kyler Murray Logs Another Limited Practice as Vikings Await Concussion Clearance

The NFL concussion protocol is basically a medical escape room, and a limited practice tag is just the league's way of saying a guy is allowed to stretch and look at a football without getting a headache. For the second straight day, Minnesota Vikings quarterback Kyler Murray is officially a limited participant as he tries to clear those final hurdles.

Murray took a heavy shot to the helmet from safety Javon Bullard while sliding in the first quarter of last week's season opener against the Green Bay Packers. He was quickly ruled out, leaving his status for this Sunday's road trip to play the Chicago Bears completely up in the air.

Head coach Kevin O'Connell told reporters he prefers to name a starter by Friday, which leaves bettors and fantasy managers staring at a blank wall for another 24 hours. You cannot handicap a game when the most important position on the field is a coin flip between a dynamic franchise star and a chaotic backup.

If Murray cannot get the green light from an independent neurologist, Minnesota will hand the keys back to Carson Wentz. Wentz stepped in last week, erased a 12-point third-quarter deficit, and somehow guided the Vikings to a 39-22 victory.

Relying on Wentz for a full four quarters is a completely different math problem, especially with the offense taking another hit this week. Running back Jordan Mason was just placed on injured reserve with a broken thumb, meaning Aaron Jones is going to have to carry a massive workload to keep the chains moving.

The Vikings are taking this day by day, but limited reps in a red non-contact jersey do not guarantee anything. Until Murray actually gets full medical clearance, anyone holding a Minnesota ticket needs to make peace with the Carson Wentz experience.
