Ladd McConkey is officially active today against the Las Vegas Raiders, defying the medical odds of a guy who literally cracked his ribs just last week.
Most of us pull a muscle sleeping wrong and need three business days to recover. McConkey cracked his ribs in the fourth quarter against the Arizona Cardinals, sat out practice on Wednesday and Thursday, and is now strapping on a flak jacket to play professional football.
"Adam Schefter reported: 'Chargers WR Ladd McConkey is active today.'"
Adam Schefter confirmed the rookie wideout is good to go for Sunday's AFC West clash. This is massive news for a Los Angeles Chargers offense that desperately needs him, considering he racked up five catches for 82 yards and a touchdown in his NFL debut.
Head coach Jim Harbaugh called him day-to-day earlier in the week, which in Harbaugh-speak usually means anything from a paper cut to a missing limb. But getting a limited session in on Friday was apparently enough to clear the medical staff.
Fantasy managers who have him rostered can breathe a sigh of relief. Bettors eyeing his receiving props will just have to weigh the upside of his target share against the very real threat of Maxx Crosby testing that injured ribcage over the middle of the field.
The Chargers kick off against Las Vegas tonight. We will find out very quickly if McConkey is actually healthy enough to separate from defensive backs, or if he is just out there as a highly drafted decoy.
