The Baltimore Ravens are officially putting Lamar Jackson on ice for another week, which means it is once again Tyler Huntley time under center.
Mike Garafolo reported Friday that Jackson is officially out with his lingering ankle sprain, and starting center Cam Jurgens is joining him on the inactive list with a concussion. Losing your MVP-caliber quarterback is bad enough, but losing the guy who snaps him the ball in the same week is a brutal combination for an offense trying to find a rhythm.
"Mike Garafolo reported: '#Ravens rule out QB Lamar Jackson. C Cam Jurgens also out for Baltimore.'"
Jackson suffered the Grade 1 ankle sprain back in Week 4 right before halftime. Before the injury, he was cooking with 967 passing yards, 144 rushing yards, and six touchdowns to just one interception. Now, he is missing his second straight game, leaving a massive void in the Baltimore backfield.
Ankle sprains for a quarterback who moves like Jackson are like a bad transmission in a sports car. You can technically still drive it to the grocery store, but you are absolutely not taking it on the highway. Rushing him back makes zero sense for a franchise with Super Bowl aspirations.
For anyone holding Jackson in fantasy or looking at the weekend betting lines, this completely rewires the math. Huntley managed to scrape out a 30-23 overtime win against the Atlanta Falcons last week, but asking a backup to keep the magic alive on the road against an AFC North rival is a massive swing.
The Ravens head to Cleveland this Sunday to face the Browns. If Huntley can survive another week without his starting center, Baltimore can keep their season on track while Jackson gets right. If not, the panic meter in Maryland is going to spike by Monday morning.
