Helsley is sitting on a 4.11 ERA and a 1.43 WHIP with eight saves on the year, which are not exactly video-game numbers. But when you are trying to lock down a playoff seed, any live arm with late-inning experience is treated like a winning lottery ticket.

Helsley is scheduled to throw live batting practice this week, which is the ultimate tease for anyone holding an Orioles futures ticket. If his elbow holds up, Baltimore gets a crucial reinforcement. If it does not, their bullpen remains a nightly high-wire act.
