Myles Garrett Headed to IR: Rams Lose Star Pass Rusher for Crucial Stretch

If you thought the Los Angeles Rams' week couldn't get any worse after getting completely dismantled by the San Francisco 49ers, the injury bug just entered the chat. ESPN's Adam Schefter reported Sunday that star defensive end Myles Garrett is undergoing arthroscopic knee surgery and heading straight to injured reserve.

That means the Rams are losing their most terrifying pass rusher for at least the next four weeks. Garrett will officially miss upcoming matchups against the New York Giants, Denver Broncos, Philadelphia Eagles, and Buffalo Bills.

Missing the Giants and Broncos is the NFL equivalent of getting a doctor's note to skip gym class. But not having Garrett on the field for the back half of that IR stint is where things get genuinely terrifying for Los Angeles.

Trying to slow down the Eagles and Bills without your premier edge rusher is a recipe for a long afternoon. The Rams just gave up 27 points to San Francisco with a healthy roster, so removing a generational talent from the defensive front is going to send oddsmakers scrambling to adjust those game totals.

You do not just replace a guy who commands double-teams on every single snap. Opposing quarterbacks suddenly have an extra half-second to throw, which is basically an eternity when you are dealing with elite offenses.

Garrett is technically eligible to return after this four-game gauntlet, but knee scopes are rarely a perfect science. The Rams just have to figure out how to keep their season afloat over the next month before they can even think about getting their anchor back.
