Najee Harris is Visiting the Giants Because New York Loves a Comeback Arc

Adam Schefter just dropped the news that free-agent running back Najee Harris is visiting the New York Giants today. If you forgot Harris was a free agent, you probably also forgot the absolute fever dream that was his 2025 season.

Last year with the Los Angeles Chargers, Harris suffered an eye injury in a July 4th fireworks mishap, finally got cleared to play, and then immediately tore his Achilles in Week 3 against the Denver Broncos. He finished the year with exactly 15 carries for 61 yards. That is the kind of stat line that makes you want to throw your phone into a river.

Naturally, the Giants looked at a running back coming off a catastrophic lower-body injury and decided he was exactly what their offense needed. New York is already dealing with a banged-up roster, including rookie Malik Nabers nursing a knee issue and JuJu Smith-Schuster popping up on the August injury report.

The Giants just dropped a thrilling 13-10 preseason rock fight to the Minnesota Vikings over the weekend. When your offense is struggling to find the end zone in exhibition games, kicking the tires on a former first-round pick makes sense on paper, even if that paper is currently covered in red flags.

From a market perspective, adding Harris would definitely shake up the Giants' backfield depth chart and alter the rushing prop math for whoever ends up starting Week 1. Just remember that betting on a running back less than a year removed from an Achilles tear is a great way to donate money to your local sportsbook.
