Predators Hit the Waiver Wire Clearance Rack for Tyson Jost

The NHL waiver wire is basically the clearance rack at a department store, and the Nashville Predators just decided to take home a slightly used Tyson Jost.

PuckPedia reported today that Nashville scooped up the 27-year-old forward off waivers from the Carolina Hurricanes. Meanwhile, the Winnipeg Jets claimed Stevenson, and the rest of yesterday's waiver block cleared, leaving a bunch of guys to pack their bags for the AHL.

Jost brings 495 games of NHL experience to Smashville. He logged nine points and 46 hits in 39 games for Carolina last season, which are the kind of stats that will not exactly tilt the Central Division futures market but do provide a guy who knows where to stand on the ice.

The Predators honestly need the depth after getting absolutely boat-raced 6-0 by those same Hurricanes in a recent matchup. When a team hangs half a dozen goals on you and then tosses a former first-round pick on waivers, claiming him is either a galaxy-brain scouting move or just a desperate attempt to steal their practice drills.

Nashville is currently trimming its training camp roster down to 28 players, meaning Jost has a very short runway to prove he belongs in the bottom six. He has eclipsed the 20-point mark five times in his career, but right now, the Predators just need him to eat minutes without getting caved in.

We will see if the change of scenery sparks anything when the Predators wrap up their preseason schedule. Until then, Jost gets to trade the Carolina system for whatever Nashville is cooking up this year.
