Saints WR Brock Rechsteiner Suspended Six Games, But the NFL Still Wants Him for Preseason Duty

The NFL has officially handed New Orleans Saints wide receiver Brock Rechsteiner a six-game suspension to start the 2026 season, but not before squeezing some August labor out of him.

According to ESPN's Adam Schefter, the suspension will officially take effect when the Saints trim their roster down to 53 players. Until then, Rechsteiner is fully cleared to participate in all preseason activities, including the exhibition games.

This is peak NFL discipline logic. You are officially banned from helping your team win when the games actually matter, but the league would absolutely love it if you could go log 45 snaps in the second half of a preseason game so the actual starters can wear baseball caps on the sideline.

For New Orleans, losing a depth piece like Rechsteiner for over a third of the season forces some early roster gymnastics. The Saints will have to navigate the first month and a half of the schedule down a man in the receiver room, which usually means someone off the practice squad is about to get a very stressful promotion.

From a betting and fantasy perspective, this takes Rechsteiner completely off the board until late October. If you were banking on him as a late-round sleeper or factoring him into early-season player props, it is time to look elsewhere.

Rechsteiner will spend August trying to stay sharp in exhibition action before disappearing until Week 7. The Saints now have a few weeks of training camp to figure out exactly who absorbs his snaps when the real games begin.
