The Seattle Seahawks managed to survive a 13-10 rock fight against the New England Patriots, but their biggest victory of the night actually happened in the medical tent.

Quarterback Sam Darnold took a shot that sent the collective Pacific Northwest into a panic, but the early returns are surprisingly good. According to Ian Rapoport, Darnold received positive news following a post-game CT scan.

Head coach Mike Macdonald confirmed that doctors have officially ruled out a fracture. For a franchise that just handed Darnold the keys to the offense, hearing the words 'no fracture' is basically a Super Bowl parade.

Darnold’s career arc has essentially been a survival movie. Just when he finally lands a stable gig with a solid supporting cast in Seattle, we are immediately sweating out X-rays and medical imaging.

The offense clearly needs him under center. Scraping together 13 points against New England is not exactly a masterclass in modern football, but it gets infinitely harder if you have to dig into the depth chart this early in the season.

The final hurdle is an MRI scheduled for tomorrow. While the CT scan and X-rays suggest he avoided a major injury, the MRI will have the final say on any soft tissue damage.

Until that machine stops humming, fantasy managers and oddsmakers are going to keep Seattle's future lines in a holding pattern. If the MRI confirms the good news, Darnold dodged a massive bullet.
