Spencer Steer's Wrist Surgery Adds to the Reds' Medical Ward

The Cincinnati Reds are officially running out of healthy bodies, and Spencer Steer is the latest casualty heading to the operating table. MLB Trade Rumors relayed the grim news Thursday that the utility man is set to undergo right wrist surgery.

Steer originally hit the injured list back on July 27 with a sprain. He tried to ramp things back up, but one painful swing caused a massive setback. Now, he is scheduled for a September 30 procedure to repair a torn tendon sheath.

At this point, the Cincinnati medical staff is getting more daily reps than the actual bullpen. Steer joins a 60-day injured list that is starting to look like a witness protection program, featuring franchise cornerstones like Hunter Greene, who recently underwent his second Tommy John surgery.

This massive roster depletion is exactly why the Reds have been such a brutal watch down the stretch. They just dropped three out of four games to the Chicago Cubs, getting completely dismantled 9-1 in the series finale. Anyone looking at the daily betting markets for this team needs to factor in that they are basically fielding a makeshift lineup just trying to reach the finish line.

Steer is officially shut down with an expected return in 2027.
