The Los Angeles Rams are officially holding open tryouts for anyone who knows how to run a seam route and block a defensive end.
According to ESPN's Jeremy Fowler, the Rams are placing tight end Terrance Ferguson on Injured Reserve with an ankle issue. To make matters worse, fellow tight end Colby Parkinson is questionable for Sunday after sitting out practice all week with knee and shoulder problems.
"Jeremy Fowler reported that Ferguson tried to play through the ankle issue Sunday vs Denver."
Ferguson apparently tried to tough out the ankle injury during last week's 30-26 loss to the Denver Broncos. That is the NFL equivalent of ignoring a check engine light until the car is actively on fire, and now he is sidelined for at least four weeks.
Parkinson missing an entire week of practice is the real red flag here. You do not usually go from a triple-zero practice week straight into a starting role on Sunday unless you are a ten-year veteran or actively hiding a severe structural deficit.
This leaves the Rams coaching staff staring at a depth chart that looks like a CVS receipt of practice squad elevations. The Los Angeles offense relies heavily on tight ends to disguise their run-blocking schemes and keep defenses honest over the middle.
Los Angeles has to travel to face the Philadelphia Eagles this weekend. If Parkinson cannot go, whoever the Rams trot out at tight end is going to be a massive wild card for fantasy managers and anyone brave enough to touch the prop market.
