Timberwolves Roll Out Chaotic New Starting Five Featuring LaMelo Ball and Jonathan Kuminga

The Minnesota Timberwolves are rolling out a starting five that looks like a 2K MyLeague simulation left on auto-trade for three seasons. According to Underdog NBA, Minnesota is shaking up the rotation on Monday to start LaMelo Ball, Ayo Dosunmu, Jaden McDaniels, Jonathan Kuminga, and Rudy Gobert.

This is a massive shift for a 4-3 Minnesota squad trying to find its footing after dropping a 121-111 game to the San Antonio Spurs over the weekend. If you are holding tickets on Timberwolves player props, this new rotation completely scrambles the usage rates and offensive hierarchy.

"Underdog NBA tweeted: 'Lineup alert: Wolves will start Ball, Dosunmu, McDaniels, Kuminga, Gobert on Monday.'"

Ball has been running the offense with a chaotic 14.4 points and 6.3 assists per game on a frosty 39.3 percent shooting from the floor. Pairing him in the backcourt with Dosunmu, who is quietly putting up over 15 points and five boards a night, gives Minnesota a dual-guard look that should push the pace and take some on-ball pressure off Ball.

Throwing Kuminga and McDaniels on the wings next to Gobert creates a defensive frontcourt with enough wingspan to block out the sun. It also means the half-court spacing is going to be an absolute nightmare. Watching Ball try to thread lob passes into a paint clogged by three guys who do their best work inside the arc is going to be either high comedy or a tactical masterpiece.

We will see how this experiment looks immediately when the Milwaukee Bucks come to town on Monday night. If this group cannot generate enough perimeter shooting to keep the defense honest, expect the coaching staff to pull the plug and shuffle the deck again before they head out to face the Houston Rockets later this week.
