Titans Lose Rookie Guard Fernando Carmona to Ankle Sprain in Ugly Loss to Giants

The Tennessee Titans' offensive line just took another hit, as rookie right guard Fernando Carmona is expected to miss a few weeks with an ankle sprain.

Carmona was carted off during Sunday's brutal 12-7 loss to the New York Giants. According to Jordan Schultz, the fifth-round pick out of Arkansas avoided a season-ender but will be sidelined for the immediate future.

Losing a starting guard is bad enough, but losing one during a game where your offense only manages seven points against a Giants team missing its starting quarterback is a special kind of pain. New York was playing without Jaxson Dart, and Tennessee still could not find the end zone enough to matter.

Carmona had been a rare early bright spot for this roster, winning the starting job in training camp and starting all three games so far. He even played through a shoulder issue from their Week 2 loss to the Philadelphia Eagles just to get on the field Sunday.

Now, Jackson Slater is stepping into the right guard spot for an offense that looks completely lost. If you are looking at the betting markets for Tennessee's team totals moving forward, you have to factor in a backup interior lineman trying to hold the pocket together for an 0-3 squad.

The Titans are staring down the barrel of a lost season before October even starts. Slater is going to get a heavy workload, and Tennessee has to figure out how to score double-digit points before the fan base completely checks out.
