Todd Monken Saw 'Good Things' From Deshaun Watson. We Have Questions.

Browns head coach Todd Monken is sticking with Deshaun Watson as his starting quarterback for Sunday's game against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers.

According to Adam Schefter, Monken told reporters he anticipates Watson will start because "there were some really good things on film." I would love to know what film he was watching, because the broadcast feed told a very different story.

Cleveland is coming off a brutal 34-10 loss to the Jacksonville Jaguars. Scoring 10 points in a modern NFL game usually means your offense spent three hours punting and apologizing to the defense.

Finding "really good things" in a 24-point blowout is the kind of aggressive optimism you usually only see from real estate agents trying to sell a house with fire damage. But when your quarterback has a fully guaranteed contract that rivals the GDP of a small island nation, you have to find the silver linings.

The Browns now head to Tampa Bay to face a Buccaneers team that just dropped a 33-27 shootout to the Cincinnati Bengals. If Watson actually puts those good things from the film onto the field, Cleveland might have a chance to keep pace with a Bucs offense that clearly knows how to find the end zone.

If not, Monken is going to run out of creative ways to defend his quarterback before we even hit October. Sunday will tell us if that film session was a breakthrough or just a hostage video.
