Bears Cut Jedrick Wills Before He Even Plays a Snap

The Chicago Bears just released offensive tackle Jedrick Wills Jr., ending his tenure in the Windy City before he even played a regular-season snap.

Signing a guy to a one-year "prove it" deal in March and cutting him before September is the NFL equivalent of returning a rental car before you even leave the airport lot.

Adam Schefter broke the news on Sunday that Chicago is moving on from the former tenth overall pick. Wills originally signed with the Bears to compete for the starting left tackle job and serve as a veteran shield for Caleb Williams.

Wills started 57 games for the Cleveland Browns between 2020 and 2024, but his career hit a brick wall when he missed the entire 2025 season. He had to undergo a femur osteotomy, which is a heavy-duty bone-alignment surgery designed to take pressure off his knee.

Chicago clearly thought they were buying low on a former top-tier prospect who just needed time to heal. Instead, they got a front-row seat to a guy who might just not have the physical foundation left to hold up against NFL edge rushers.

If you are holding a futures ticket on this Bears offense, you have to hope the offensive line depth chart has some hidden gems, because their veteran insurance policy just got canceled.

Now Wills hits the open market right as teams are finalizing their 53-man rosters. Someone desperate for tackle depth might take a flyer on him, but Chicago is officially rolling the dice with what they have left in the building.
