Broncos Elevate Kolbe Katsis as Marvin Mims Tests Foot Injury Ahead of Sunday Night Football

Denver Broncos wide receiver Marvin Mims is officially a game-time decision for Sunday Night Football against the Los Angeles Rams, but the front office might have already tipped their hand.

ESPN's Jeremy Fowler reported Sunday that Mims is testing his questionable foot pregame to see if he can go. But in the same breath, Fowler noted the Broncos elevated wide receiver Kolbe Katsis to the active roster. You do not need a detective badge to read the tea leaves here. When a team calls up a practice squad receiver hours before kickoff, the guy with the bruised foot is usually heading for the inactive list.

Mims has been dealing with this pedal foot bruise since late August. He tried to play through it in Week 1, aggravated the injury, and ended up sitting out Denver's Week 2 win over the Jacksonville Jaguars. So far in 2026, Mims has exactly zero catches for zero yards. Rushing him back to the field for a prime-time game feels like a completely unnecessary gamble.

The Rams secondary is currently anchored by former Chiefs cornerbacks Trent McDuffie and Jaylen Watson, who already know the AFC West playbook inside and out. Throwing a hobbled receiver out there against guys who hit like linebackers is the kind of decision that gets a player shut down for a month. If you are holding a Mims anytime touchdown ticket or waiting on him for a fantasy lineup, you might want to start looking at the cash-out button.

Bo Nix will likely have to rely on Jaylen Waddle and Courtland Sutton to carry the passing game tonight. As for Mims, we will get the official inactive list shortly, but expect Katsis to be the one wearing a helmet while Mims watches from the sideline in sweatpants.
