Colts Sign Darius Slayton to Reunite with Daniel Jones After Alec Pierce Injury

The Indianapolis Colts are officially getting the band back together, assuming your favorite band is the mid-2020s New York Giants offense. Veteran wide receiver Darius Slayton is signing with Indy, reuniting him with quarterback Daniel Jones in a move that proves time is a flat circle.

Tom Pelissero reported the signing late Monday, noting that the Colts needed emergency depth after Alec Pierce went down. Pierce aggravated a heel injury after slipping on a route during Sunday's 33-30 loss to the Kansas City Chiefs and is now heading to injured reserve.

If you are going to grab a receiver off the street in late September, you might as well get one who already knows your quarterback's tendencies. Slayton and Jones spent six seasons together in New York, connecting for 259 receptions, 3,897 yards, and 21 touchdowns before the Giants decided to clean house.

The best part of this deal for Slayton is the accounting. The Giants are already on the hook for his $9.8 million in guaranteed money this season. Getting paid nearly eight figures by your old boss to go catch passes from your old quarterback in a different time zone is the absolute peak of the NFL dream.

This is a chaotic roster pivot for Indianapolis. The front office traded Michael Pittman Jr. to the Pittsburgh Steelers specifically to clear cap space for Jones and Pierce. Now, with Pierce on IR and Jones coming off a torn Achilles from last December, the Colts are suddenly relying on Giants castoffs to keep their season afloat.

From a betting perspective, the Colts' passing props are about to get weird. Slayton immediately steps into a high-snap role alongside Josh Downs and Keenan Allen. If you are looking at target shares for next week, factor in the built-in chemistry Slayton has with Jones, even if that chemistry historically resulted in a lot of punts.
