Colts WR Alec Pierce Opts for Rehab Over Surgery on Aggravated Heel

Alec Pierce is attempting to rehab a surgically repaired heel that he just re-injured, which sounds a lot like trying to fix a blown tire with duct tape and positive vibes.

According to Ian Rapoport, the Indianapolis Colts star wide receiver is opting against a second surgery. Instead, he will spend the next several weeks rehabbing the aggravation with the hope of returning by midseason.

This is the exact same foot that gave him trouble all through the 2025 season. Pierce somehow managed to cross the 1,000-yard mark and lead the NFL in yards per catch last year on a bad wheel before finally getting a clean-up procedure in March.

The duct tape officially gave out during Sunday's 33-30 loss to the Kansas City Chiefs. Pierce was carted off the field in the first quarter and left Arrowhead Stadium on crutches, which is never the visual you want for a guy who just spent his entire offseason recovering.

Opting for rehab over surgery on a joint that already went under the knife is a massive gamble. It is the medical equivalent of blowing on a dusty Nintendo cartridge and hoping the game does not freeze. For anyone holding Colts futures or relying on Anthony Richardson passing props, losing your premier deep threat for a month or more is a brutal hit to the offense's ceiling.
