Jets and Titans Injury Reports Already Look Like Mid-Season Triage Lists

The NFL season barely just started, but the New York Jets and Tennessee Titans are already treating the medical tent like a VIP lounge. Ian Rapoport dropped the final injury updates for Sunday, and the inactive list is starting to look like a CVS receipt.

For Tennessee, linebacker Cedric Gray is officially out with a concussion. Losing a defensive presence this early in the schedule is a brutal blow for a unit trying to establish an identity. You cannot exactly scheme around missing your primary tackler when the opposing offense is built to run downhill.

It gets worse for the New York sideline. Rookie cornerback D'Angelo Ponds is doubtful with a calf problem, and kick returner Kene Nwangwu is also doubtful thanks to a bad back. When your special teams ace and your secondary depth are both struggling to even put on pads, the coaching staff has to start getting creative with the snap counts.

If you are staring at the total for this game, this cluster of absences is doing a lot of the heavy lifting. Missing Patrick limits the Jets' offensive ceiling, while Ossai being out gives the Titans' offensive line one less headache to worry about on third down. It is a recipe for a messy, grind-it-out football game.

We will see who actually survives warmups on Sunday. Right now, this matchup is turning into a battle of attrition before the opening kickoff, and whoever manages the chaos better might just limp away with an ugly win.
