Ravens Starting Center Jovaughn Gwyn Out 2-3 Months With Fractured Fibula

Just when the Baltimore Ravens get the offense humming, the injury bug decides to take a massive bite out of the offensive line.

ESPN's Jeremy Fowler reported Wednesday that starting center Jovaughn Gwyn suffered a fractured fibula. The injury will likely require surgery and is expected to sideline him for two to three months.

This is a brutal break for a guy who literally just fought his way to the top of the depth chart. Gwyn won the starting center battle during training camp, proving he was the right guy to anchor the middle of the Baltimore front.

Now, that anchor is gone until at least Thanksgiving, and the Ravens have to scramble to figure out who is snapping the football.

The timing could not be worse. Baltimore is fresh off a 34-31 shootout win over the Dallas Cowboys where the offense looked like a well-oiled machine. You do not drop 34 points in this league without the big guys up front doing their jobs.

Losing a center is not like losing a rotational wide receiver. It is the literal nucleus of the offense. Every single play starts with that guy, and any miscommunication in the trenches usually ends with your franchise quarterback peeling himself off the turf.

From a betting perspective, offensive line injuries rarely move a weekly spread by a full point, but they absolutely matter for live-game flow and team totals. If the backup center cannot handle complex blitz pickups, drives stall out fast.

The Ravens will have to hit the reset button on their offensive line chemistry immediately. Whoever steps into the starting role has massive shoes to fill, and opposing defenses are going to test the middle of that line the second the whistle blows.
