Adam Schefter just dropped the news that eight-time Pro Bowl linebacker Von Miller is signing with the Dallas Cowboys, proving once again that Jerry Jones cannot resist a big-name veteran with a Texas zip code.
Signing a 37-year-old pass rusher is the most Cowboys move possible. It is the football equivalent of buying a vintage sports car that spends half the year in the shop, but looks absolutely incredible parked in the driveway.
"Adam Schefter reported the signing, noting Miller's Texas roots."
To be fair, Miller still has some juice left in the tank. He put up 9.0 sacks last season for the Washington Commanders, bringing his career total to a ridiculous 138.5 sacks.
Miller has been manifesting this move for years. He went to Texas A&M, grew up in the area, and previously joked about the magnetic field pulling him back home so his mom would not have to fly to his games anymore.
Futures markets will probably give Dallas a slight bump on name recognition alone, but the real question is durability. Miller is a few years removed from a late-2022 ACL tear, and relying on him to be an every-down savior at this stage of his career is a massive gamble.
Dallas just wrapped up a 17-7 win over the Seattle Seahawks, and adding Miller gives them a situational weapon for the regular season. We will see if the hometown reunion ends with a deep playoff run or just a lot of really expensive jersey sales.
