Wind, Rain, and Jameis Winston: The Giants Are Walking Into a Week 3 Weather Trap

Mother Nature has apparently decided that the New York Giants quarterback situation was not quite chaotic enough on its own. The forecast for East Rutherford is calling for sustained 15 mph winds, 28 mph gusts, and a steady diet of light rain and mist.

Meteorologist Kevin Roth noted that the entire playbook should technically still be open in these conditions. That is a terrifying thought when you remember who is actually operating that playbook on Sunday.

With rookie Jaxson Dart officially banished to injured reserve following knee surgery, the Jameis Winston era is officially underway. Handing Winston the keys to the offense in a literal wind tunnel against the Tennessee Titans is the exact kind of sick joke the football gods love to play.

Anyone holding a ticket on passing props or the game total needs to take a hard look at the radar. Kicking a football through 28 mph swirling gusts at MetLife Stadium is basically a random number generator, and deep shots in the rain usually end up in the hands of a defensive back.

The weather means New York is going to have to lean heavily on their power running game to survive. Expect a massive workload for running back Cam Skattebo, who now has to carry the offense without his starting quarterback and best friend.

The defense is also going to have to drag this game into the mud. Thankfully for New York, edge rusher Brian Burns is expected to play through an ankle issue, giving them a fighting chance to make things just as miserable for the Titans.

There are bad weather games, and then there are bad weather games featuring a backup quarterback who has never met a tight window he did not want to test. Sunday afternoon is going to be a sloppy, unpredictable mess, and we will find out very quickly if the Giants can run the ball well enough to survive it.
