Jaxson Dart's Severe Knee Injury Hands the Giants' Season to Jameis Winston

If you thought the New York Giants' season was already a tough watch, the script writers just introduced a devastating plot twist. Quarterback Jaxson Dart is out for an extended period, and possibly the entire season, after suffering a severe knee injury.

According to NFL Network's Mike Garafolo and Ian Rapoport, an MRI revealed that Dart's injury is much worse than initially anticipated. The signal-caller took a brutal sandwich hit between two Los Angeles Rams defenders during Monday night's prime-time game and immediately limped off to the locker room.

The timing is objectively terrible for a franchise desperately trying to avoid another losing campaign. Dart finishes his abbreviated start to the 2026 season with 230 passing yards and 54 rushing yards. For context, the Giants managed exactly six points in Monday's 28-6 blowout loss, meaning the offense was already stuck in the mud before their franchise quarterback got folded up like a cheap lawn chair.

Now, the keys to the offense are being handed to backup Jameis Winston. Giving Winston control of an already struggling unit is like trying to put out a grease fire with a bucket of fireworks. It is going to be spectacular television for neutral fans, but an absolute nightmare for anyone holding a New York moneyline ticket.

This is not Dart's first run-in with the medical staff, either. He missed time last season with a concussion and had a meniscus tear back in his college days. You have to feel for a young quarterback who spent the entire offseason trying to prove he could stay on the field and elevate this roster.

Sportsbooks are going to aggressively nuke whatever was left of New York's season win totals. The Giants now have to figure out how to salvage a campaign that just lost its most important piece in Week 2, while the rest of the NFC East circles them like sharks in the water.
