MRI Ruins Giants' Season as Jaxson Dart Suffers Major Knee Injury

The NFL injury news cycle is a cruel, unpredictable machine. One minute you get a late-night report about a hopeful MCL sprain diagnosis, and the next day the MRI results arrive to completely ruin your season.

That is exactly what happened to New York Giants quarterback Jaxson Dart. According to Ian Rapoport and Mike Garafolo, Dart’s left knee injury is significantly worse than anticipated. He is officially out for an extended period of time, and there is a very real chance his 2026 campaign is already over.

Dart originally went down on the opening drive of Monday night's 28-6 loss to the Los Angeles Rams after getting sandwiched between two defenders. He limped to the blue medical tent before heading to the locker room, leaving the Giants offense in the hands of Jameis Winston.

Going from a young franchise cornerstone to the Winston experience is a transition no fanbase is ever truly ready for. Winston stepped in and immediately delivered a vintage performance, completing just 11 of 27 passes for 111 yards and an interception while the offense repeatedly stalled out.

For anyone holding Giants futures or looking at their weekly betting lines, the math just drastically changed. Winston is a human variance machine who can single-handedly cash an over or destroy a spread in a five-minute span, making New York an absolute nightmare to handicap going forward.

Head coach John Harbaugh tried to play it cool in his postgame press conference, telling reporters they were waiting on the imaging before jumping to conclusions. The imaging has now spoken, and it essentially told the Giants to start looking at 2027 mock drafts.

New York now has to scrape together a functional game plan for a Week 3 matchup against the Tennessee Titans. With Dart sidelined for the foreseeable future, the Giants are about to become the most chaotic watch in football.
